Library staff know that interactive storytimes are invaluable in engaging children in the reading process and creating lifelong learners. They don’t always know, however, what specific impact they are having on the individuals who attend. That’s why it was such a nice surprise for Saddlebrook Branch youth services librarian Katy Brackett when a parent approached her after storytime last month with a “thank you” card and a box of chocolates.
“To receive reaffirmation from parents (and grandparents!) that what we are doing is so important for these children and their future success as readers and all the possibilities the library opens for them, it completely made my week! It gave me a moment to be thankful for the profession I chose and grateful for the wonderful people I get to work with (both staff and patrons),” said Brackett.
Each week, the Wiegman family brings their daughter Catherine to storytime at Saddlebrook Branch.
