122912JenniferDuncanEvery other week, Omaha Public Library shares what our patrons are reading with the Omaha World-Herald. This week, W. Clarke Swanson Branch patron Jennifer Duncan shared five of her favorite reads.

44 Scotland StreetThe Jewels of ParadiseOperation MincemeatIn the Garden of BeastsThe Soldier's Wife

Duncan’s recommended reads:

1. Alexander McCall Smith’s 44 Scotland Street and Isabel Dalhousie series. I love his wry wit and how he weaves philosophy and psychology through his novels.

2. Donna Leon’s mysteries set in Venice. She is a very intelligent and literate author with clever plots and insightful knowledge of her locale.

3. Operation Mincemeat by Ben Macintyre. An account of a bizarre plan that fooled the Nazis. It is written in a highly entertaining way and gives a glimpse into the minds of British intelligence officers during World War II.

4. In the Garden of Beasts by Erik Larson. An unusual story of the American ambassador living in Berlin with his family in the years before World War II.

5. Joanna Trollope’s books. She has an extraordinary ability to explore the hearts and minds of ordinary people’s everyday experiences.
